HIV and Tuberculosis are endemic in South Africa. An epidemic of HIV-associated neuropathy is anticipated in the context of use of stavudine-containing anti-retroviral regimens. Our preliminary goals are to investigate risk factors for HIV neuropathy such as concurrent tuberculosis infection, prior or ongoing anti-TB therapy and nutritional deficiency.
